Travertine is a type of limestone. Like limestone, its mineral content is primarily calcium carbonate, but it is softer and more porous than limestone. It is often found near hot springs or in caves, formed from warm water that percolates through subsurface limestone and rises to the surface.

• How do I know if travertine pavers are the right pavers for my pool?

Travertine is attractive, heat-resistant and easy to clean when sealed. It does not absorb heat, even in direct sunlight, making it comfortable to walk on with bare feet.

Our travertine pavers come in a tumbled finish with unfilled holes for a more natural look. They can be filled with grout colour of your choice after installation to achieve your desired look. They can also be used on stairs or as pool coping as the edges are tumbled and give an old-world look. For a defined look, our travertine pavers also come in matching premium bullnose edge.

Bullnose pavers are a popular choice for pool copings. They are rounded then sanded to smooth the edges of the stone, making it more comfortable to slide in and out of a pool. Bullnose pavers can also be used on stairs, outdoor benches, seating around pools and edging for raised flower beds.

• Why travertine pavers must be sealed?

We recommend sealing all types of stone. Sealer keeps water, dust, grime and acidic substances from affecting a stone’s surface. Because travertine is made primarily of calcium carbonate, it is more prone to acid attacks. Outdoors, bird droppings and rain can contain acids that eventually erode the surface. Some foods, wine, beverages, oils and cleansers also can affect the surface.

Sealing stone prevents efflorescence, or build-up of salts and other minerals on the stone’s surface. We stock a range of sealers that can be used indoors and out. If rising salt is a problem on existing stones in your home or business, we also stock products that remove unsightly deposits and stains.
